Marshall Center Welcomes David M. Cattler to Board of Directors

LEESBURG, VA – The George C. Marshall International Center is pleased to announce the appointment of David M. Cattler, former Director of the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA), to its Board of Directors.

A distinguished national security leader with more than 35 years of service across the U.S. military, government, NATO and allied security institutions, Cattler has led organizations through periods of geopolitical disruption and institutional change while advancing trust, resilience and principled leadership.

At DCSA, he led the agency responsible for safeguarding the integrity of the U.S. government workforce and defense industrial base. Previously, he served as NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Intelligence and Security, overseeing intelligence integration, security policy and allied coordination across 32 NATO nations.

“We are honored to welcome David Cattler to the Marshall Center Board of Directors,” said Marshall Center Chairman Paul Michaels. “David brings a rare combination of operational leadership, alliance experience and strategic perspective at a time when the Marshall Center is strengthening our programs and extending our reach. His record of public service aligns powerfully with General Marshall’s enduring example and the mission of the Marshall Center.”

Throughout his career, Cattler has emphasized leadership grounded in integrity, service and institutional responsibility — values closely associated with General George C. Marshall’s legacy.

Following his government service, Cattler founded Ironhelm Works LLC, a strategic advisory firm focused on security, trust and resilience amid geopolitical competition and technological change. He serves on several advisory boards and remains active in transatlantic security, policy and leadership discussions.

Mr. Cattler is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and Georgetown University, and he was an MIT Seminar XXI Fellow.
