Leesburg, VA -- In response to a letter from Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) and Senators Mark Warner (D-VA) and Tim Kaine (D-VA), the National Park Service has agreed to conduct a reconnaissance survey to evaluate the suitability of designating the George C. Marshall House in Leesburg, known as Dodona Manor, as an “affiliated area” under NPS, which would help protect the property.

While the official start of spring is more than a month away, the staff and volunteers at Leesburg's George C. Marshall Center at Dodona Manor are already making plans for this year's garden.

Given its proximity to Washington, D.C., and a busy international airport like Dulles, you'd expect Leesburg to feel like a modern suburb on the verge of sprawl, but just the opposite is true.

Most often it is George C. Marshall’s leadership on the battlefield and in the post-World War II rebuilding of Europe that is celebrated at his legacy. This week, George C. Marshall International Center in Leesburg is putting the spotlight on another aspect of his public service.

The George C. Marshall International Center will dedicate a flagpole on the grounds of George C. Marshall's former home at Dodona Manor in Leesburg during a special ceremony Saturday, Sept. 14 at 9:30 a.m.

The George C. Marshall International Center on Saturday honored internet pioneer Vinton G. Cerf with its inaugural Innovation Award during a March 9 gala at the Army-Navy Country Club in Arlington.
